Entry 1: December 22, 2007
This is the kick-squad, which
consists of Tony Ciaravino and Desi Cullen, and we are
the personality, character and looks of this team. It
seems like Christmas will come early for our fans this
year because all week long we will be bringing you the
behind the scenes look at what goes on in Charlotte and
especially what goes on in the life of your kickers.
After our last final last Friday, the Storrs campus has
been close to a ghost town with little to do and no one
to play with. When we wake up at 9 o’clock every morning
for breakfast check, we feel like Will Smith in “I am
Legend” because we know there is life out there but we
still have yet to see it.
Looking at the pond there is about five or six ducks
that still haven’t flown south for the winter. By the
time we head to Charlotte their pond will have frozen
over and then they will have no choice but to join us in
North Carolina. Judging from what you have read already
we are kickers, and we don’t have much to say on the
topic of “football.” So if you are looking to find out
any inside information you may want to save your time
now and read another blog, I mean what did you expect?
Ha ha, we are only kidding of course we have all the
inside scoop on what goes on around here.
So far practice has been very productive with new plays
and some good brushing up on technique for all of us.
However, we can tell that the attitude in the locker
room is anxious and we can’t wait to get back on the
field. It’s tough waiting all these weeks for the
opportunity to play that one more game, but it’s worth
it. And today (Thur., Dec. 19) was the last day of
practice, time to go home, see the family, clear our
minds and get ready to put a show on for our fans like
they have never seen before.
Tony is also getting tired of wagering his dinner with
Coach Edsall on making all his field goals in field goal
period. There have been a couple nights when Tony has
gone to bed hungry and if you know Tony or even seen
Tony in a tight shirt you will know he doesn’t like
missing meals.
The free time we have is from 6 pm till 11 pm, which is
curfew, but we made the best of it. One night we went to
the mall to do Christmas shopping and checked out the
new Cabella’s beside the stadium in East Hartford.
On a side note, Desi does not have a mullet, more like a
Brad Pitt/David Beckham starter kit -- lets just say if
he could date his own hair he would. We will be flying
home Friday afternoon and spending some well needed
quality time with our families but we will meet back up
in Charlotte on Christmas eve.
Since we won’t be home for Christmas, eat a piece of
turkey for Desi and especially Tony as Desi put him on a
diet so he can fit his jersey better for the bowl game.
Merry Christmas Husky Fans; we are looking forward to
having a great time in Charlotte, and most especially
putting an exclamation point on the end of this
momentous season!
